What a Dark dragon looks like
Dark is an incomplete dominant colour morph, graded Uncommon like one copy of every simple gene that shows with one.
Colour genes change the body itself, the bottom layer of a dragon's look, so Dark stacks with any pattern, white or accent gene on the same dragon.
Nothing in the game today hides Dark: a dragon with the gene always shows it.
How to breed a Dark dragon
Dark is incomplete dominant: one copy of the gene shows Dark, and two copies show its super form, Super Dark. A Dark passes the gene to half its babies.
Because one copy and two look different, a dragon's look tells you what it carries: a Dark has one copy, a Super Dark two, and a Normal none. There are no hets to prove.
Pair two Dark dragons and 25% of the eggs are Super Dark; a Super Dark paired with a Normal gives a Dark in every egg. For the Punnett square behind these numbers, see how to read breeding odds.
Combinations with Dark
The combinations book collects every body colour with every element. A Dark dragon that also shows Lava is a Dark Lava, one of the 8 squares open today, and the first keeper to hatch each square holds it as a world first.
Where to get a Dark dragon
Dark turns up in crate dragons. In the pool of genes every crate draws from, the Dark gene comes up at a rate of 8%; the Iron Crate turns that up 2.3 times and the Lava Crate 4 times. How often a crate dragon shows any morph at all depends on the crate: 8% in the Wooden Crate, 35% in the Iron Crate and 70% in the Lava Crate.
