What a Cobalt dragon looks like
Cobalt is a recessive accent morph, graded Rare like every recessive morph, since it takes two copies to show.
Accent genes add something of their own without moving the main markings, so Cobalt stacks with every other gene.
Nothing in the game today hides Cobalt: a dragon with two copies always shows it.
On a dragon that also has Tiger, Racer or Ringtail, the bars, lines and rings turn cobalt blue as well.
How to breed a Cobalt dragon
Cobalt is recessive: a dragon shows it only with two copies of the gene, one from each parent. With one copy it looks Normal but carries Cobalt hidden, a het, and passes it to half its babies.
What het means here: a baby that looks Normal from het × het carries Cobalt 67% of the time, so the game labels it "67% het Cobalt", a possible het. From het × Normal that is 50%, and every baby of a Cobalt × Normal is a proven het. Hets and possible hets explains how those numbers move.
To prove a possible het, pair it with a Cobalt. One Cobalt baby proves it at once. Each Normal baby lowers the chance but never to zero: after three Normal babies in a row, a 67% het Cobalt falls to 20%.
Where to get a Cobalt dragon
Cobalt turns up in crate dragons. In the pool of genes every crate draws from, the Cobalt gene comes up at a rate of 4%, tied for the lowest of any gene there; the Iron Crate turns that up 2.3 times and the Lava Crate 4 times. How often a crate dragon shows any morph at all depends on the crate: 8% in the Wooden Crate, 35% in the Iron Crate and 70% in the Lava Crate.
A crate dragon that doesn't show Cobalt can still arrive with papers naming it as a gene it may carry hidden, at 20% to 60%. Breeding it is how you find out. What's in each crate has the rest of the odds.
