Games like Flight Rising are easy to list and hard to match. Flight Rising has run in the browser since 2013, and its pull is specific: dragons whose genes come in 177 colors, babies that inherit from their parents, an Auction House for selling what you bred, and a community big enough that its front page showed more than 70,000 users online when we checked. No other game does all of that. The seven below each match a part of it, and a couple go further in one direction.
Dragonbred, one of the seven, is our game, and it's marked as ours. Everything said about the others comes from their own sites, wikis and store pages, checked in October 2026.
What you're actually replacing
It helps to name what Flight Rising does before looking for it elsewhere. From its own guides:
- Genes in layers. Each dragon has a primary, a secondary and a tertiary gene, and each one shows in any of 177 colors. Rarer genes are less likely to pass to a baby than common ones.
- Colors from the parents. Players on its forums describe a baby's color as landing anywhere on the shorter path between its parents' colors on the color wheel.
- Slow, deliberate nests. A nest holds one to five eggs, which take about five days to hatch. Each breed then waits 15 to 35 days before breeding again, and parents can't share ancestors within five generations.
- No hidden genes. The official genes article says it outright: "Flight Rising does not have recessive or hidden genes." What you see on the parents is what can pass on.
That last point is where the alternatives differ most. One player on the Flight Rising forums put the wish plainly in 2021: "I've always wanted to try a breeding game with mendelian genetics."

Closest on genetics
Dragonbred (our game)
Dragonbred is a browser game, on a phone or a computer, built on the one thing Flight Rising leaves out: hidden genes. Its genes follow ball python morph rules. Some are recessive, so a dragon can carry one without showing it. Some are dominant. Some are incomplete dominant, so two copies make a stronger super form, the way two Goldens make a Pale Gold.
In practice, two plain-looking dragons can hatch an Albino. If both carry Albino, each egg has a 25% chance of showing it, and the plain-looking babies each have a two-in-three chance of carrying it. The game works those percentages out and moves them with every clutch, then stamps a dragon proven once a clutch shows what it carries. You can try any pairing in the free breeding calculator without an account. Hets and possible hets shows the math, and how to breed an Albino walks through a whole project.
It isn't a color-wheel game. The field guide has 28 morphs from 20 genes, and they stack in layers (color, pattern, white patches, accents, and the Lava element), so one dragon can be Albino, Striped and Piebald at once. Under the morphs sits a hidden physique, size, wingspan and antlers among it, inherited in small steps from both parents. The dragons are 3D. Sell on the player market for Scales, take offers, or trade directly; the 10% seller fee is burned, not collected.
What Flight Rising players will miss: dress-up, exploring, battles and a big community. Dragonbred is new, and the iPhone app isn't out yet, but you can breed dragons online in any browser today.
Dragon Breeder Game
Dragon Breeder Game from Rare Breed Games runs free in the browser and describes itself as a turn-based strategy game set in the Dark Ages. Its front page lists "Mendelian inheritance with 100+ traits," mutations such as hexapods and hydras, unique color palettes, and a marketplace for dragons and items. It's early: the page title says pre-alpha, and 2 players were online when we looked. Worth a try if you want Mendelian rules and don't mind rough edges.
Dragon Adventures
Dragon Adventures is a Roblox game, not a website, but the Flight Rising forums' own list of similar games calls it "basically FR in 3D." Its color rule will feel familiar: each color slot on a baby is taken from the range between its parents' colors in that slot. On top of that, a pairing has a 33% chance of a non-basic element, and breeding mutated dragons raises the odds of a mutated baby. You can trade dragons, eggs and items, or auction dragons on Trade Island. It's been running since 2019 by Sonar Studios, is free to play, and sells game passes for Robux.
The same kind of site, with other animals
If what you love is the site itself, the daily routine, the forums and the long breeding projects, two browser games from the same company are worth a look. Both ask that you be at least 16 to register.
Lioden
Lioden puts you at the head of "your very own pride of lionesses" to "breed the best cubs, defend your territory and battle other lions." Cubs inherit bases and markings from their parents, with some looks only passing down from parents that have them. The Lioden wiki's base genetics page gives an example: two Black Dark lions are guaranteed a Black Dark cub. Silver Beetles are the everyday currency; Golden Beetles are the premium one, bought for real money or bartered from other players.
Wolvden
Wolvden, from the makers of Lioden, opened on October 19, 2020. Its front page promises "a full breeding and customised genetics system complete with mutations." Its fan wiki, Grouse House, notes that the pass rates of most base combinations have never been revealed by the developers, which suits players who like working odds out for themselves. Gold Cones are its premium currency, and players trade at the Trading Center.
Older and simpler
Dragon Cave
Dragon Cave has run since 2006, longer than any game here. The forum list calls it "mostly a clicker game," and that's fair: eggs grow with views and clicks from other people. A pair of adults can breed once a week, and you can trade eggs and hatchlings, though not adults. It's free, and still adds new dragons; a September release went out this year.
Dragonea
Dragonea is a French breeding game with an English option, run by one person, Jérémy Desvages, since 2007. You start by choosing your first dragon's race from six (Fire, Forest, Mage, Mountain, Plain and Water), its name and its sex. Its front page counts 74,098 registered players, with only a handful online when we checked. It's free, with optional Rubies for special items, and each person may hold only one account.
What about Draconis Theory?
The Flight Rising forums' list of similar games called Draconis Theory "very similar to FR, but doesn't have clothing and dress up." In January 2026, a thread on the same forums said it was "shutting down very soon." We found no official notice and couldn't load its site to check, so look it up yourself before you start a project there.
